Hi Everyone.

We are having a wonderful trip.

Started out in London, expensive and wet as expected. Still nice to see the familiar streets and sights. It was just to overcome our jet lag before heading off to Venice to join our cruise on the “Marco Polo”

Met a cousin who we had never seen before. A very nice and interesting lady. She is a judge on the High Court of Britain. She was actually born in Israel, but has lived in the UK since the age of 24.

Next stop Venice. Things were relatively (for Venice) quiet. We had an overnight on the ship prior to sailing away. Our ship is only about 25,000 tons. Small compared to the “Carnival Liberty” shown in the background. This picture make the Marco Polo look big. Also other scenes of Venice, which had some flooding at lunch time (it now has water in “San Marco” 250 days of the year). The scene on the water from the Rialto bridge is quite frenetic. I don’t believe the phote does justice to the activity.

Some other scenes inVenice.

Korcula was next. It is on an island (also called Korcula due to a lack of imagination on the day when either the town or island was being named) is part of Croatia. It is a charming (when they aren’t fighting) place. Its main claim to fame is that Marco polo was supposed to have set out from here on his famous adventures. We took a local bus to another town and walked a few kilometers before returning to the bus stop for our return journey. The place consists of vineyards, olive trees and lovely beaches.

Next was Corfu, a Greek Island of 100,000 inhabitants, 30,000 of whom live in the main town. It was a Saturday, but all the commercial establishments were closed because there was a big celebration of October 28, 1944 when the island was liberated from the occupation of Italy and Germany. The tourists have now taken over. There was a parade of bands and scouts and school children.

Katacolon, a small town on mainland Greece, is close to the site of the original Olympic Games. We did not go there, but just relaxed in town and had coffee by the seaside.
